    Queens Bankruptcy Lawyer

Hi, my name is Stefan Coleman and I practice bankruptcy law in Queens, New York. I have devoted my entire law practice to helping people who are overwhelmed with debt - to erase that debt in bankruptcy - and to get a fresh financial start.

Can You Really Erase All of Your Debt?

For the overwhelming majority of my clients, they are able to erase all of their debts in bankruptcy. For instance, if you had $10,000, $25,000, or over $100,000 of credit card debt and medical bills - I could help you erase all of that in just a few months in a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Amazing isn't it?

Why Shouldn't I Do Debt Settlement?

I cannot express to you how many phone calls I receive every week from people who have employed debt settlement companies but now want to file bankruptcy. The people who used these companies complain to me that they wasted thousands of dollars and time with no real gain. It is important to understand that in a chapter 7 bankruptcy, your debt is not settled - it is totally wiped away to $0.

Can I Keep My Home and Car?

For 90% of my clients they keep their home and their car. If either one is financed, they usually can keep them as long as they remain current on these bills.

    Unemployment Income and Bankruptcy

by admin on January 2, 2010

I had an interesting client call my office this past month.  He desperately needed bankruptcy to save him from some pretty serious credit card debt.  This was a really good guy who had been affected by the economy.  He had taken some unemployment income while he was looking for a job.  The problem was that he was actually getting a few minor jobs while he was getting his unemployment check.  The problem with this is that if I filed bankruptcy for him this could trigger some kind of investigation on him.  It is not very likely that it would but why put my client at risk.  In the end I decided it was best not for him to file.  In general, I also requested that he straighten everything out with unemployment.  Lesson to be learned – don’t try to outsmart the system – it will only catch up to you in the end.
